Pinnawala village is located in the northeast of Kegalle town in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawala altitude is 253 meters. The average annual temperature in Pinnawala is 26.3 °C. In a year, the average rainfall is 2493 mm. Pinnawala has the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. It is well known for its elephant orphanage. A theme park, symbolizing an ancient village of Sri Lanka under the name “Ape Gama” was commissioned recently at Pinnawala, Rambukkana near the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and newly opened Pinnawala zoo.
