Kandy

Kandy is located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It is the second-largest city after Colombo. The city is a height of 500 meters above sea level. The average annual temperature in Kandy is 24.5 °C. In a year, the average rainfall is 2083 mm. Kandy remained the most sacred sites of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, perhaps the capital of Buddhism because it is home to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) – the most revered Buddhist temple in the world. Not only is it home to the country’s most holy relic, a tooth of Buddha, but the city also offers numerous wondrous attractions and sights, from tropical forests to tea plantations and spice gardens.

Kandy Lake was artificially constructed by the last king of Sri Lanka and as an additional feature for the beautifully laid out Temple of Tooth complex. The Royal Botanical Garden, Peradeniya, is located just a few kilometers outside of the city and is home to more than 4000 different plants species including medicinal plants, orchids, and palm trees. Kandy lays inland mountains and thick forests of the island. It is located among several mountains, including the Knuckles mountain range and the Hanthana Mountain Range, Its area is 28.5km². Kandy is the historic town of the supreme importance of religion and culture. This historic holy site was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988.
