Dambulla is a city, situated in the Matale District, Central Province of Sri Lanka. The altitude of Dambulla is 233 m.  The average annual temperature is 26.8 °C. In a year, the average rainfall is 1557 mm. Major attractions of the area include the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex of Sri Lanka. The area is thought to be inhabited from as early as the 7th to 3rd century BC. Statues and paintings in these caves date back to the 1st century BC. But the paintings and statues were repaired and repainted in the 11th, 12th, and 18th century AD. Popham Arboretum is a paradise for nature lovers. This amazing man-made forest created by an English man will delight you with its variety of trees, birds, butterflies, and dragonflies fluttering by in their natural habitat. It’s an interesting farmers market that gives you a glimpse into the variety of local produce from the entire island. Being the largest wholesale fruits & vegetable market in Sri Lanka, it is a fun place for its colorful sights, sounds and bustle of farmers.
